Accelerated Learner Licences
About the course
Accelerated heavy vehicle courses assess your competence by testing your driving experience, knowledge, and skills.
You have to show:
- You have the experience to drive a vehicle for the class of full licence that you hold
- Knowledge of safe driving of heavy vehicles, by passing a multi choice test.
Drivers aged 25 years or older who successfully complete accelerated learner licence courses can progress through heavy licence classes without waiting the required three months of driving experience.
While your progress will be faster you still must go through each class – that is, from a class 2 to class 4, and from a class 4 to class 5.
First you must obtain your class 2 full licence. You then need to travel 1000km in a class 2 truck unsupervised and correctly complete logbook entries for a 7-day period, you will then attend a rigid HMV dynamic and fatigue management course.
Once the above has been successfully completed, you are then issued with a certificate to present to a NZTA (AA) agent that permits you to obtain your class 4 learner licence. You will then complete your class 4 full licence.
Once you have your full class 4 licence you are required to travel 1000km in a class 4 truck unsupervised and correctly complete logbook entries for a 7-day period, you will then attend a HMV combination dynamic and fatigue management course.
Once that is completed you will be issued with a certificate that allows you to sit your class 5 learner licence.
You could go from full class 1 to full class 5 in 2-3 weeks if you’re over the age of 25.
If you would like to pay on the day or have the course fee invoiced to a company please select the pay later option when prompted.
